Spring Canyon Nature Retreat

We are thrilled beyond measure to announce the donation of a 47-acre property by Jeff and Laurie Ubben to create Spring Canyon Nature Retreat in Geyserville, CA!

This incredible legacy gift to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue will play a vital role in educating our community and supporting the care and conservation of native wildlife and habitats for generations to come.

Nestled in a remote yet accessible part of Sonoma County, the property will serve as a satellite station to our main campus in Petaluma, helping expand our care of wildlife in many new and innovative ways.

Thanks to its location in northern Sonoma County, this facility will also serve as a way station for animals in need of care from the Mendocino and Lake County, who do not have any available rehabilitation resources for wildlife.

Neonatal Care Center and Intern Development

The property lends itself as the perfect place to establish a neonate hospital designed to care for our youngest, most vulnerable patients—often requiring intensive, round-the-clock care.

This specialized hospital will also serve as a training station for interns from all over the world, providing invaluable hands-on experience in wildlife rehabilitation and nurturing the next generation of conservationists and wildlife caregivers.

We launched our new Neonatal Care Program at Spring Canyon with the help of our 2025 interns, Dean Cuneo, Faline Howard and Kyle Anderson to great success! We are looking forward to the future development and expansion of this program in 2026.

One With The Wild Wellness Retreats

The Spring Canyon Nature Retreat will play a pivotal role in the development of our newest program, One with the Wild Wellness. This program was launched by Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue in early 2024 to help connect people to natural habitats through wildlife education, re-discovering our own wild instincts through wellness, nurtured by meditation, yoga and nature, to evoke the love, kindness and compassion already resting within us.

Few places would be as well suited to carry out the mission of One with the Wild Wellness as Spring Canyon. The property is home to 47 acres of forested and riparian habitat, connected with two miles of well-maintained hiking trails and a large pond - all teeming with native wildlife. The two residential homes on property serve as the perfect setting to host curated yoga and meditation retreats, helping people reconnect and immerse themselves into the natural world we are surrounded by.

Call of the Wild Advisory Council

These holistic experiences will be enriched by our Call of the Wild Advisory Council, a group of Sonoma County community leaders dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats, providing guided wildlife experiences such as bird watching, wildlife tracking, and forest bathing to name a few.

On land first inhabited by the Pomo Kashia Natives, members of their tribe will lead cultural education, sharing traditions that have long connected their ancestors to the natural world around us. Our hope is that through these experiences, we can support our partners in wildlife conservation and our visitors will leave with a greater understanding and appreciation of the work happening in our communities.

This extraordinary gift will help serve wildlife in ways we have previously only imagined in our wildest dreams. We are deeply grateful to the Ubben family for entrusting Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue to carry out this legacy gift and are honored to use this space to give back to wildlife.

As we continue to create this space, we will be providing monthly updates to those who wish to stay up to date on our progress or wish to get involved in some capacity. To stay in the loop, please sign up using the link below.
