We’re excited to celebrate our one-year anniversary at Spring Canyon with two day retreats on October 24th and 25th! We hope you’ll join us for the celebration.
10/17/25 Update:
We’re thrilled by the incredible response to our upcoming Spring Canyon Nature Retreat! Our Friday, October 24th retreat is now completely full. Thank you to everyone who signed up to celebrate and support next year’s treatment of our most vulnerable patients, orphaned infant wildlife.
We still have just 5 spots left for Saturday, October 25th, and we’d love for you to be part of this special day before it fills up too!
Although Saturday was originally planned as a family day, no families with children have RSVP’d, so we’re turning it into a second adult retreat, offering the same peaceful pace, nourishing experiences, and restorative activities as Friday.
And, for anyone who wants to embrace the season’s spirit, we’ll still have pumpkin carving available for a bit of creative fun in the afternoon!
Below is a more detailed version of what you can expect from your experience, and what you might want to bring with you.
We are deeply grateful to all who participate and contribute to the future of our extraordinary wildlife. Special thanks to the Ubben Family, without their generosity, none of this would be possible.

I bring together my passion for cooking and storytelling, where each dish is crafted like a scene in a larger story — nourishing both body and spirit. Beyond the kitchen, I am a ceremonial dancer, honoring tradition and movement as forms of connection and celebration. Rooted in simplicity, nature, and artistry, my work invites guests into a memorable journey through food, culture, and ceremony.

Arrival-meet and greet, snacks, tour of retreat homes and Wildlife Neonatal Care Room, pack hiking back packs
The beginning of your adventure with us will give you an opportunity to see for yourself all the future opportunities and especially our neonatal patient care room, where all the action takes place during wildlife baby season. You may also envision a retreat for your own family here, or fellow professionals.
To be stewards of our amazing planet, we teach our guests on ways to pack eco friendly lunches and snacks, without using packaging and other materials that can be harmful to wildlife habitats. We will also have picnic blankets and backpacks for those who need them.
Group yoga and meditation
This important time together will give us a chance to bond and set our intentions in sharing this valuable time together as a community. It will be a chance to learn the incredible power of yoga and meditation as beginners or experienced practitioners.
Please bring a mat if you have one and wear comfortable layers of clothing. We can provide mats for those of you who need one.
Hike and visit Wildlife Camera Stations
We will lead 2 separate groups through some of our 3 miles of trail systems. Each group should expect a slow and thoughtful guided experience with your leader, learning about their insights of the wildlife that live on the landscape. By visiting the Wildlife Camera Stations, you will quickly become familiar with some of these temporary and permanent wild residents, who freely come and go as they please. You will see why becoming their stewards, has taught us that they should be protected and respected for who they are as individuals.
Please wear good, stable hiking shoes and socks. Bring walking sticks if needed. Your picnic blanket you carry with you will be used to sit and rest along many of our educational settings and camera stations. Binoculars would be a great idea to have with you as well.
Lunch, community, birding
We are proud and honored to provide you with a plant-based diet, that we will serve to all of our participants in a community-round table setting, with plenty of seating for all of us to be together. Chef Freddy will share his insight to why cooking with plants and other vegetarian choices for food, support our planet’s health, as well as our own.
Plan to spend some time in community as we will have a chance to just kick back and talk to each other, read a book off on your own, or just wander around this beautiful habitat.
Pumpkin carving will be available for those who would like to partake in this festive activity.
Again, bring your binoculars and your favorite bird ID book if you would like to see and or hear some of our local bird species.
Closing yoga and meditation
We will all come together for a closing group yoga. You can expect to be introduced to some gentle asana and yin poses, while you enjoy the magical music of nature and wildlife all around you. We will close with a beautiful mediation that will leave you feeling rested and rejuvenated.

Mark Your Calendars! The 30th Annual CCWR Symposium will be held from November 7-10th at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaluma, CA!
Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue is excited and honored to be the host organization for this year’s event. We invite our volunteers, supporters, and community members to join us for a weekend of learning, connection, and celebration of wildlife rehabilitation across California.
Have you ever wondered what goes into wildlife rescue and rehabilitation? This year’s symposium is the perfect opportunity to learn from experts in the field, connect with rehabilitators from across the state, and gain a deeper understanding of the vital work being done to protect our native wildlife.
We’re proud to share that several of our SCWR staff will be presenting, along with our partners Ken Wayne of Flying Tails and Dr. Quinton Martins of True Wild.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help moderate presentations throughout the weekend. Those who assist as moderators will receive free registration to the event. If you’re interested, please reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Kelsey Reidinger, at support@scwildliferescue.org.
We hope to see you in Petaluma this November for this special milestone event!
