Come Celebrate One Year at Spring Canyon!

At Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, we are excited to share an incredible new chapter in our mission to care for wildlife and inspire future generations of wildlife rehabilitators—not just here in Sonoma County, or California, or the United States, but from all over the world.

This year, we successfully launched our Wildlife Neonatal Care Program at Spring Canyon Nature Retreat. We are also marking our first anniversary on this amazing property in Geyserville and have become loving and passionate stewards of this land. We can now bring our One With The Wild Wellness Program here too and share it with all of you!

To celebrate these first milestones and support these two great programs, we are holding our first day retreats here on Friday, October 24th and Saturday, October 25th. Below is a more detailed version of what you can expect from your experience, and what you might want to bring with you.

Both days will be limited to a group of only 10 participants, so you will be assured to have an exceptional experience, and have the opportunity to interact with each other on a more soulful level. We encourage carpooling if you are able. Parking is limited and the planet’s fossil fuels are at capacity.

All contributions to these 2 separate events will be put into a reserve, for next year’s treatment of our most vulnerable patients, orphaned infant wildlife. Our new interns will live on site throughout next year’s baby season to care for these patients around the clock.

We are deeply grateful to all who participate and contribute to the future of our extraordinary wildlife. Special thanks to the Ubben Family—without their generosity, none of this would be possible.

MEET YOUR CHEF, FREDDY SANCHEZ

Chef Freddy will be cooking for both day retreats

I bring together my passion for cooking and storytelling, where each dish is crafted like a scene in a larger story — nourishing both body and spirit. Beyond the kitchen, I am a ceremonial dancer, honoring tradition and movement as forms of connection and celebration. Rooted in simplicity, nature, and artistry, my work invites guests into a memorable journey through food, culture, and ceremony.

A Sneak Peak At Your Day

10:00-11:00 AM

Arrival-meet and greet, snacks, tour of retreat homes and Wildlife Neonatal Care Room, pack hiking back packs

The beginning of your adventure with us will give you an opportunity to see for yourself all the future opportunities and especially our neonatal patient care room, where all the action takes place during wildlife baby season. You may also envision a retreat for your own family here, or fellow professionals.

To be stewards of our amazing planet, we teach our guests on ways to pack eco friendly lunches and snacks, without using packaging and other materials that can be harmful to wildlife habitats. We will also have picnic blankets and backpacks for those who need them.

11:00-11:30 AM

Group yoga and meditation

This important time together will give us a chance to bond and set our intentions in sharing this valuable time together as a community. It will be a chance to learn the incredible power of yoga and meditation as beginners or experienced practitioners.

Please bring a mat if you have one and wear comfortable layers of clothing. We can provide mats for those of you who need one.

11:30-1:00 PM

Hike and visit Wildlife Camera Stations

We will lead 2 separate groups through some of our 3 miles of trail systems. Each group should expect a slow and thoughtful guided experience with your leader, learning about their insights of the wildlife that live on the landscape. By visiting the Wildlife Camera Stations, you will quickly become familiar with some of these temporary and permanent wild residents, who freely come and go as they please. You will see why becoming their stewards, has taught us that they should be protected and respected for who they are as individuals.

Please wear good, stable hiking shoes and socks. Bring walking sticks if needed. Your picnic blanket you carry with you will be used to sit and rest along many of our educational settings and camera stations. Binoculars would be a great idea to have with you as well.

1:00-3:00 PM

 Lunch, community, birding

We are proud and honored to provide you with a plant-based diet, that we will serve to all of our participants in a community-round table setting, with plenty of seating for all of us to be together. Chef Freddy will share his insight to why cooking with plants and other vegetarian choices for food, support our planet’s health, as well as our own.

Plan to spend some time in community as we will have a chance to just kick back and talk to each other, read a book off on your own, or just wander around this beautiful habitat.

Again, bring your binoculars and your favorite bird ID book if you would like to see and or hear some of our local bird species.

3:00-4:00 PM

Closing yoga and meditation

We will all come together for a closing group yoga. You can expect to be introduced to some gentle asana and yin poses, while you enjoy the magical music of nature and wildlife all around you. We will close with a beautiful mediation that will leave you feeling rested and rejuvenated.
